Pedestal Crane Operator - CraneTech

Pedestal Crane Operator

OSHA and API compliant Pedestal Crane Operator Training for offshore and marine environments. This program qualifies pedestal crane operators to work in oil, gas, energy, and marine environments. Participants learn to inspect, set up, and operate pedestal cranes while meeting offshore regulators.

Is Pedestal Crane Operator Program the right course for you?

  • You operate or supervise pedestal cranes in offshore, marine, or energy environments.
  • You want operators evaluated and qualified in compliance with OSHA, API RP2D, and ASME B30.4.
  • You need documented training that supports BSEE, USCG, NAVFAC P-307 and DOE expectations.
  • You want operators whose training reduces incidents, improves safety, and helps extend the life of your equipment.

After this course, participants will be able to:

  • Reduce offshore risks. Perform pre-use and periodic inspections of pedestal cranes, wire rope, and safety devices.

  • Ensure compliance. Apply OSHA, API, and ASME requirements to crane setup and operations.

  • Handle critical lifts with confidence. Safely conduct personnel lifts, over-water lifts, and tandem lifts.

  • Improve communication offshore. Use proper signaling and communication practices for offshore conditions.

  • Protect your assets. Operate pedestal cranes confidently with load charts, attachments, and site-specific procedures.

  • Reduce accidents and downtime. Identify hoist components, functions, and safety devices. Perform pre-use and periodic frequent inspections.

  • Proper setup, use, and application of all safety devices and operational aids (i.e. LMIs and anti-two-block devices).

Frequently Asked Questions

What standards apply to pedestal crane operator training?

This pedestal crane operator course incorporates OSHA, ASME B30.4, API RP2D, and 29 CFR Part 1919 requirements. It also aligns with the expectations of BSEE, USCG, DOE, and the Navy for offshore and marine crane operations.

Does this training meet offshore regulatory requirements?

Yes. The course provides the training, evaluations, and documentation employers need to demonstrate compliance with offshore regulators.

This makes it suitable for oil, gas, energy, and marine operators who must comply with API RP2D offshore crane standards.

What types of pedestal crane operations are covered?

Training covers personnel lifts, over-water lifts, tandem lifts, and general offshore load handling, along with inspections, signaling, and communication. Programs can also be customized to address your equipment, attachments, and operational environment.

How long is pedestal crane operator qualification valid?

Pedestal crane operator qualification is determined by the employer. Crane Tech conducts training and written/practical evaluations, with evaluation results valid for two (2) years. Operators must be re-evaluated sooner if unsafe operation is observed or if equipment setup, job scope, or workplace conditions change. Qualifications do not transfer between employers.

What are the benefits of pedestal crane operator training?

Effective training produces safer operators and operations, reduces downtime, minimizes equipment wear, and helps employers maintain compliance while improving productivity offshore.
