Rigger Level I - CCO Prep - CraneTech

Rigger Level I – CCO Prep

Earn your national CCO certification as a Rigger Level I. Combines classroom instruction, guided practice, and CCO written and practical exams to help participants demonstrate their ability to perform rigging work in compliance with OSHA and ASME standards.

Is Rigger Level I CCO Certification the right course for you?

  • You want to earn entry-level CCO certification for performing basic rigging tasks where the load weight and configuration are known. (For more complex lifts requiring calculations and rigging selection, see Rigger Level II CCO Certification.)
  • You need a complete program where Crane Tech manages all training, applications, and exam administration.
  • You want hands-on instruction to prepare for CCO testing.
  • You’re seeking certification that demonstrates your skill, professionalism, and commitment to safety

After this course, participants will be able to:

  • Inspect rigging before use and remove damaged or defective equipment from service.

  • Select and attach rigging using the correct hitches, hardware, and knots.

  • Recognize and prevent unsafe practices such as side loading, shock loading, and pinch points.

  • Verify provided load information and follow safe travel paths and lift plans.

  • Assemble and control rigging safely, maintaining clear communication and proper signaling during lifts.

  • Confidently sit for CCO Rigger Level I written and practical exams.

  • Safe use of rigging hardware: shackles, hooks, clamps, eyebolts, hoist rings, and links

  • Below-the-hook lifting devices and plate clamps

  • Tag line use, load control, and body positioning

  • Pre-use inspection standards and removal-from-service criteria

  • Post-lift activities: securing, disconnecting, and stowing rigging gear

  • Hands-on practical exam preparation

Mapped to CCO Rigger Level I Certification written and practical exam content for complete preparation.

Compliance

  • OSHA 1910.184 – Slings

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the CCO exams included with this training?

Yes. This course includes both the CCO written and practical exams, along with guided preparation and hands-on training designed to reinforce test readiness. All exam applications, scheduling, and administration are handled directly through Crane Tech.

What’s the difference between Rigger Level I and Rigger Level II CCO Certification?

Rigger Level I covers basic rigging tasks where the load weight, center of gravity, and configuration are provided or known. It focuses on safe execution—inspecting, attaching, and controlling the load under established plans.

Rigger Level II expands on those skills, allowing certified riggers to select rigging gear, identify lift points, and calculate load weight and angles for more complex lifts performed independently.

How long is CCO certification valid?

CCO certification is valid for five years. Recertification training and testing are available through Crane Tech.

Do I need prior experience to attend?

No prior experience is required. However, participants should be familiar with basic rigging concepts or have related on-the-job experience for the best results.

What if I don’t pass one of the exams?

Our team will guide you through your options and help plan your next steps. In some cases, a practical retest may be completed immediately if time and resources allow. Written exams include a CCO-mandated waiting period before retesting, and we’ll assist with scheduling and preparation for your next attempt.
