Frequently Asked Questions

Does this certification meet OSHA’s signalperson requirement?

Yes. CCO Signalperson certification satisfies OSHA’s qualification requirements under 29 CFR 1926.1419–1926.1428, which mandate written and practical evaluation. CCO certification serves as third-party verification of those qualifications and is nationally recognized across all industries.

Do I need previous experience to take this course?

No. This is an entry-level certification course designed for new or experienced personnel involved in crane signaling.

Are the CCO exams included with this training?

Yes. This course includes both the CCO written and practical exams, along with guided instruction and practice time to prepare for each. Crane Tech handles all exam scheduling and administration directly with CCO.

What’s the difference between Qualified Signalperson and CCO Certified Signalperson?

Qualification is employer-based and requires a documented evaluation; it does not automatically transfer between employers. CCO certification is a nationally recognized, third-party credential that is portable between employers but does not replace the employer’s duty to ensure workers are qualified.

Crane Tech’s Signalperson Qualification training includes evaluation components employers may use for internal qualification. Certification is separate.

How long is CCO certification valid?

CCO certification is valid for five years. Recertification training and testing are available through Crane Tech.

What if I don’t pass one of the exams?

Our team will guide you through your options and help plan your next steps. In some cases, a practical retest may be completed immediately if time and resources allow. Written exams include a CCO-mandated waiting period before retesting, and we’ll assist with scheduling and preparation for your next attempt.
